Solares is a small town that you can reach it by train easily, check the timetable at FEVE train station. There is an old spa ( part of its history has a relation with water) and some traditional houses between modern buildings.
It is full of restaurants and bars, we recommend you LA TIENDA DE PEDRO GARCIA (Avenida Calvo Sotelo, 40), a traditional food shop and bar taken from old times.
Some years ago in the PEPITA MINE a mythological park was created. The natural environment is really impressive but the mythological figures aren´t always in good state.
Anyway if you go to Solares you shouldn´t miss the MANSION OF THE "MARQUÉS DE VALDECILLA" which is located in the near town of Valdecilla. It is 30 minutes walk and you will find a completly different atmosphere in Valdecilla. A beautiful town with traditional houses choosen by the Marqués to build his own house. There you can visit the different houses and park ( the park entrance is free), also there is an exhibition about the Spanish emigration to Cube, quite important for the history of the North of Spain, and the life of this wealthy man who was born in this town.
