Once you have arrived you should visit the tourist offices. There are two and in the summer there will be more. The city main tourist office is opened in the Pereda Gardens (JARDINES DE PEREDA) just in the centre. They will be give you a city plan and information about the city, also they can give you brochures about the cultural and entertainment activities.
There is another tourist office opened in the old Este Market ( MERCADO DEL ESTE). This is the Cantabria tourist office so they have information about all the Cantabria region, that´s good for planing your trips outside the city. Also there they have information about other Spanish cities, just in case you need a plan for some days.
If you need practical information for your trips outside Santander, a good idea is to visit the bus station or the train station that is just in front ( there are two train station one long distances and another short ones). There you will get timetables for the buses and trains inside and outside Cantabria. Their web page is a mess so better go there.
